I allowed myself to add the small details and curves that I’d forced myself to ignore until now. I differentiated the fingers from one another then added in the most important wrinkles: the ones separating the fingers from the palm, and the palm from the wrist.Īdding these wrinkles at this stage helps define the pose and also serves as a guideline throughout the drawing process. ![]() Once I was satisfied with the shapes, I subdivided them into smaller pieces, still using only straight lines, drawn quickly with a pencil gripped loosely. I wanted the shapes and proportions to look right when I glanced back and forth between subject and sketch. I avoided drawing any curves or details, focusing instead on the general interrelationship of the shapes. The fingers became a single shape, the thumb became another, then there was the palm and finally the wrist. I began by breaking down the hand into a series of geometric shapes. ![]()
